As this is my personal blog and not a technical one, I would like to start sharing my experience from my first job in 2016 and will add more and more as I gain experience with each year:
Year 2016-18
I joined TCS on August 2016 and for the next two years, lived a blessed life with a lot of money(compared to college pocket money) 😀 which I received from my salary at TCS after major chunk(read 50%) of it going into basic expenses.
For the first year, I will not write anything inspirational as like every other engineer who dreams of getting a job in a big MNC someday , I also got one and that too in TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES.I learnt basics of programming in my ILP(Initial Learning Programme) conducted by TCS for first three months for all the freshers as I had no prior knowledge of any programming language.
I had physical education during my higher secondary school days(11th and 12th) and had absolutely no interest in learning any computer subject (being from a core branch student) till I got placed in TCS by sheer confidence and a bit of luck (parent’s blessings).
A mechanical engineer got placed in 7th Semester in 2015 😀 and that was a big achievement in itself considering the placement scenarios of core branches(ME,CE,EE) we have in private engineering colleges of Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU).
During the second half of 2017 , almost a year after joining TCS, realisation struck and I thought why the hell I am here (in IT) and should I get a job in some core mechanical engineering domain company as I am wasting my 4 years of knowledge I gained in college. I guess it was the most confusing times in my career with a lot of people preparing for GATE, CAT, IAS, IES, SSC etc.
I also started preparing for SSC first but due to a lot of scam in those govt exams, moved to CAT later. I used to go office from 9A.M to 6P.M and from there directly to coaching from 7P.M to 9:30P.M. Those days were really too long and tiring for me as I had to manage my office work(less technical) along with coaching and its assignments.
Can’t forget or I should say can’t remember those 6 months of my life since I had no time for myself and to think about anything due to tight schedule. I was not able to even go to my home during that time.
Year 2018-20
I was ready to give my CAT exam in 2018 but unfortunately could not appear for it due to some personal life changing(negatively) event. This time again, the reality struck and had to believe that this is my life now and I have to build my career here in IT.
Fortunately, I had some amazing friends/colleagues from same project who made my worst days(learning the core programming) and working on delivering a major technical project comfortably. I got to learn a lot during that project from my fellow colleagues and would not miss to take their names here: Alok, Paras and Monika.I gained a lot of confidence from there and knew that I can survive in IT industry now and sharpened my skills a lot more. I also realised that coding is pretty logical & easy and I developed a penchant for it. During the last quarter of 2019, started giving interviews and got multiple offers. I was so happy and this was the first time , I cleared the interviews on my own and due to my skills and not because of luck.
Year 2020 – Today
I am working as a Salesforce Consultant in one of the biggest IT MNC and when I help out a lot of my juniors/colleagues who are CS or IT engineering graduates in solving their technical problems, the satisfaction I get is just unreal and amazing.
I feel blessed that I am able to help them in what I used to think that only CS and IT graduates can ace at. Now, SUCCESS is a very subjective thing, so I would just say for me even this small achievement is success as I overcame my biggest fear: “I can’t CODE”.
Nothing is Impossible. If you have the will to do it, you will achieve it not matter what.
You just need to have the dedication, perseverance and an open mindset to learn something and everything else just falls into place.
Amazing explanation. Most simplistic to anyone who is new to Integrations.
